The transfer of a sick baby from Cork to a Dublin hospital was delayed after the ambulance broke down.

The special neonatal ambulance equipped with an incubator broke down as it was on its way to collect the baby in Cork University Hospital who needed to go to Our Lady’s Hospital in Dublin on March 3rd.

A second ambulance was sent out but it had to stop en route to Cork to collect the incubator from the first emergency vehicle and it was at least five and half hours before the baby arrived at hospital in Dublin.

This is the second incident of its kind to emerge this week, after a sick child was trapped inside Dublin Fire Brigade ambulance for 40 minutes after it broke down on its way to Temple Street Children’s Hospital on St Patrick’s Day.
