We can almost smell the summer.

While it isn't exactly ice-cream weather just yet, all the usual signs are there - school sports days are on, heavy jackets are being put away and our fingers are itching to click that 'out of the office' button.

So this is the part where we start to dream about our perfect family holidays. In reality, I'm realising that our break away to a campsite in France will be a LITTLE more hectic than my imaginary version of floating through the sunflower fields hand in hand.

But our dreams are all we have - which is why we had a fine old time browsing and dreaming over these fabulous family-friendly hotels which have just made the cut as the top in the world.

Family Vacation Critic, an offshoot of TripAdvisor, has released its annual list of the most family-friendly hotels in 15 regions across the globe in the US, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe.

They were vetted by the site's experts and had to have a recommendation by at least 75 per cent of families.

Features which set them apart included things like free breakfast for kids and free WiFi as well as some extras like a kids' concierge and themed rooms. The bad news is that they are all pretty pricey and look a little TOO fancy for my brood.

No harm in knowing how the other half live I suppose!

In Europe, the beautiful Dromoland Castle in Co Clare, Ireland beat off the competition to be crowned number one.

The children will have some extra boasting rights after they tell their friends they stayed in a real life fairytale castle.

Some of the other winners included: The Four Seasons Resort Lana'i in Hawaii

Arenas del Mar Beachfront and Rainforest Resort in Costa Rica

Grand Solmar Land's End Resort & Spa in Mexico

Now, all we have to do is win the lottery!  Wish me luck!
