Born 10 weeks early, weighing just 2lbs, doctors said baby Theo Dawes’ chances of survival were not good.

However, just seven weeks later, his parents Vicky and Martin were given permission to take him home.

Expected to arrive on Christmas day, Theo spent the first seven weeks of his life in Sunderland Royal’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as medical staff worked tirelessly to help him breathe on his own.

The heartbreak seemed all too familiar for Vicky and Martin who had tragically gone through three miscarriages previously and worried they would not be bringing baby Theo home at all.

However, just three weeks before Christmas, the family were given the good news that they would all spend the holidays together at home.

The thankful parents are now working to raise funds for new incubators and equipment, like the one’s their baby relied on for the first few weeks of his life.

Setting up a crowd-funding page on JustGiving.com, the family have set a target of £21,000 with the hopes of “supporting and helping other babies who are born prematurely and are poorly just like our little boy.”
