Some of the record-breaking, history-making baby stories of the year are as unusual as they are interesting, and the following is so unique that it has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records.

A baby boy has made headlines this week, after it was revealed that he was conceived using the world’s oldest sperm.

According to reports, Australian dad Alex Powell was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 15. Upon learning that he would have to start chemotherapy right away, Alex made the decision to deposit and freeze his sperm in order to give him the best possible chance of becoming a father in the future.

23 years on, Alex and his wife Vi decided to try for a baby, and they successfully conceived using the sample stored from when Alex was a teen. The overjoyed couple went on to welcome their son, Xavier Powell, six months ago.

The story went viral this week after Alex discovered that his son’s unique story had smashed a Guinness World Record for conception from the world’s oldest sperm.

If you ever needed a reminder that there is always hope, it’s this one.
