An Australian couple have made headlines around the world, after welcoming two babies who were conceived 10 days apart.

Kate and Peter Hill, from Brisbane, encountered a rare case of what the medical world refers to as ‘superfetation’; whereby conception occurs for a second time, but with an entirely different egg and sperm.

After being diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), Kate underwent hormonal treatment in a bid to conceive.

She went on to conceive the couple’s first child – and then, 10 days later, the baby’s non-identical twin!

Speaking to local media, Kate explained: “My husband and I only had intercourse one time – his sperm stayed alive for 10 days to fertilise the second egg released.”

Kate and Peter’s story is just one of 10 medically documented cases of superfetation in the entire world.

The Hills went on to welcome daughters Charlotte and Olivia, who are now 10 months old.

While they may be twins, these sisters are two very different girls – they were born at different weights and sizes, and even have different blood types.

What a story to tell the sisters when they’re older!
