Earlier this week we shared a report on a baby found in a church nativity scene, and while the details were truly heartwrenching, the following story has prompted widespread shock this morning.

A baby is said to be in a stable condition after being found ‘buried alive’ in Compton, Los Angeles.

Locals were alerted when they heard the muffled cries of a baby, and they were completely taken aback when they found an infant – believed to be just days old – wrapped in a blanket and in a hole in a bike path pavement.

The emergency services were contacted immediately, and the child was brought to a local hospital for treatment. Thankfully, the tot is reported to be in a stable condition.

An investigation has now been launched to identify and locate the child’s parents.

In a statement, investigating police sergeant Marvin Jaramilla said: “Some parent of newborns can find themselves in difficult circumstances. Sadly, babies are sometimes harmed or abandoned by parents who feel that they’re not ready or able to raise a child.”

“A parent stuck in this difficult situation can safely surrender their baby at any hospital or fire station in Los Angeles County, no questions asked,” he added.

We hope there is a happy ending for this little baby.
