Previously, we reported on the heartbreaking story of Margaretlee Hilton, a mum-to-be who was diagnosed with terminal cancer shortly after finding out that she was pregnant.

Determined to fight her illness, to see her child grow up, the brave 33-year-old launched a campaign to raise the €40,000 needed to send her for potentially life-changing treatment.

Unfortunately, this morning we have some very sad news to share, as it has been reported that Margaretlee passed away on Sunday – just over a fortnight after giving birth to a daughter named Zoe.

According to reports today, while brave Margaretlee was too ill to see her daughter one last time, she passed away clutching onto her child’s babygrow.

Little Zoe weighed just over one pound when she was born, and sources claim that Margaretlee had managed to hold her precious daughter a number of times before she died.

In a tremendously sad revelation, it is said that various items of Zoe’s clothing were placed by Margaretlee’s bedside, then returned to the child carrying her mother’s scent. The devoted mother insisted on keeping one babygrow with her.

Confirming the tragic news of Margaretlee’s passing, her brother David told media: “She had been drifting in and out of consciousness, but she woke up when the clothes were placed around her bed. Margaretlee clutched one of the babygrows and wouldn’t let it go. We tried to remove it but couldn’t because she was holding it so tightly.”

“She wasn’t able to hold Zoe in her arms one last time before she died, but the wee babygrow was the next best thing,” he added.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Margaretlee’s family.
