Choosing a goat milk based Follow on Milk
Goat milk is amongst the most ancient sources of nutrition with many naturally occurring elements which many believe make it specially suited to making baby formula. Whilst cow’s milk is more common in Ireland due to our history of cow’s milk dairy farming, goat milk formula is likely to be the choice of parents in many parts of the world.

Until 2014 however goat milk was not included in formula legislation for Europe but after clinical trials by goat milk brand Nannycare, the legislation was changed and since that time goat milk formula has been growing across Europe as parents choose this alternative to cow’s milk formula.

So why choose a goat milk follow on formula?
Whilst similar to cow’s milk in many ways goat milk is naturally suited to making formula. As part of the digestive process, milk breaks down in the stomach into curds and whey. Because of the different protein composition, goat milk naturally forms smaller and softer casein curds in the stomach than those formed by cow’s milk1. Goat milk is naturally both A2 and has eight times more diverse prebiotics called oligosaccharides than cow’s milk2. Like all cow’s milk follow on milk, a goat milk formula provides all the nutrition required for growth and development to supplement your baby’s healthy diet.

When to choose a goat milk follow on formula?
Many parents choose goat milk when they decide they are ready to move on from breastfeeding. Goat milk is also a popular choice for parents experiencing mild feeding issues with their current formula. For babies with moderate to severe feeding issues you should always consult your healthcare professional to discuss a goat milk alternative. Goat milk is not suitable for babies with a cow’s milk protein allergy unless under the supervision of a suitably qualified healthcare professional.

A Popular Choice
Have you spotted goat milk in your supermarket? The Nannycare brand is most widely available in Tesco, Supervalu & many independent pharmacies. What impressed us is Nannycare is made with specialist goat milk from a farming co-operative in the heart of the Waikato Valley in New Zealand. We love that it’s a full cream formula with no-compromise ingredients including DHA* (Omega 3 LCP) from fish oil to support visual development and does not include palm oil or maltodextrin. Nannycare Follow on formula recently won our coveted ‘Loved by Mums’ award in our Mum’s Say Trial. So it looks like you love it too!
