Two young parents in the UK are mourning the loss of their first child after the baby died while sharing their bed.

Six-week-old Noah Pearson had been left in the care of his grandmother while his parents Paul Pearson and Emily Lambert went for their first night out since his birth.

When they returned at around 3.30am they went straight to bed, with little Noah in a Moses basket beside them. However when Noah awoke crying at 5am, his father fed him and then brought him to sleep in the bed.

At around 8.50am, 24-year-old Paul awoke to find his son unconscious with blood coming from his nose. He called an ambulance, but Noah was pronounced dead despite the efforts of paramedics.

Bradford Coronors' Court heard that Noah had died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), brought on by oxygen deprivation.

The coronor noted co-sleeping and parental alcohol consumption as contributory factors in his death.

Noah's mum Emily, aged 22, said she'd had just one glass of wine on the night the tragic event occurred. "We're not big drinkers and we don't drink a lot. The last time we went out was on holiday - a year before I had the baby," she said. "We just wanted to go out for a bit - I only had a glass of wine."

Emily's father Mervyn Lambert called for a health campaign to highlight the issue of babies sleeping in their parents' bed.
