The reality of Ireland’s homeless crisis was highlighted earlier this month when a mum and her children had to sleep in Tallaght Garda Station.

Many people were stunned to see such young children affected by this dreaded crisis. Unfortunately, those children aren’t the only ones who are suffering.

A new report has found that over one in three people in emergency accommodation are kids. Inner City Helping Homeless have called for more support to be offered to youths in these situations.

The group are urging the government to do more about this growing issue, especially as the winter months get closer.

Speaking of the country’s ongoing homeless crisis, head of communications Brian McLoughlin said: “The government need to stop talking and start building and building on a scale that is required to give these children homes or we're going to have a much bigger problem next year.”

He believes that we need to tackle this issue before it gets worse than it already is.

Anthony Flynn of Inner City Helping Homeless shed a horrifying light on just how many people are sleeping rough in the capital.

He stated: “We have an inundation of people experiencing rough sleeping and we are still on street with teams already engaged with over 130 rough sleepers.”

“A serious increase in the demographic of those presenting. An increase in the 18-25 year old age range,” he added.

The organisation are set to host a poetry event to mark the one year anniversary of their moving #MyNameIs campaign this evening.
