About: Cork City Gaol is famous for its wax figures which bring you back in time to the 19th/early 20th century. The Gaol shows visitors what life was like in Cork at the time, both inside and outside the prison walls. These life like wax figures are accompanied by furnished cells, sound effects and fascinating exhibitions.

This unique visitors attraction housed 19th century prisoners and visitors will get an insight into the day-to-day prison life at the time. Wandering through the Gaol, several periods of Irish history are represented from pre-famine times to the foundation of the State. The original graffiti on the cell walls tell us how prisoners felt at the time, while an audio visual tells the social history of Cork.

If you are brave and want to experience something really different, Cork City Gaol Night Tours will offer you the chance to mingle with the ghosts and inmates from the past. You will hear the shuffle of inmates feet in the atmospheric setting of the West Wing…and in the dark!
