A healthy and safe environment is so important for our babies, especially in those first weeks and months in the world, and we all need to pay heed to the following warning from one US father.

The man, known only by his social media handle ‘Whislerb’, shared a warning message to parents and people everywhere to wash their hands before handling babies.

In a post re-shared to Imgur by another user, the man details how his family ‘almost lost’ their infant baby after she developed a series of illnesses including the super-contagious respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

RSV spreads through droplets in the air and can be passed on from an infected person to another through touching, shaking hands or kissing.

Posting photos of his adorable ‘little fighter’ in hospital, the father wrote: “Three weeks ago, she was admitted to the hospital with viral meningitis. She got over that in a few days, since it was a light case. Now, she is fighting RSV.”

After being transferred to another facility, the poor tot ended up battling pneumonia, type H flu, bronchiolitis and a partially collapsed lung, on top of the RSV.

While, thankfully, the tot is now doing ‘much better’, the father had the following message to share with people all over the world.

“RSV is no joke. I didn’t know how much about it until a week ago, when it almost took my daughter from me. Please make sure to wash your hands before handling little ones. And make sure to wrap them up when heading outside into the cold,” he wrote.

SHARE this post to raise awareness of RSV and the harmful effects of not washing your hands when handling infants.
