Did you know that it’s zero waste week? These small changes can make a difference

Zero Waste Week is a week-long campaign running from the 6th-10th September, raising awareness about the environmental impact of waste. Created to help individuals and organisations become more waste conscious all year round, Zero Waste Week offers tips on recycling, saving water, reducing plastics and climate change among many other things.

Did you also know that French botanical haircare brand Klorane is the No.1 natural brand in European Pharmacies and holds an ECOCERT certification since 2012 for its rigorous environmentally friendly practices? Not only has Klorane been developing its sustainability practices for 55 years, it has also been a pioneer in the sphere of plant-based dermo-cosmetics.

The latest Klorane launches during 2021 are another step in the brand’s commitment to limiting its impact on the planet. With over 77% of consumers between the ages of 13-25 admitting to purchasing products solely on ethicality and with 27% of consumers now trying to reuse less water, Klorane’s new Shampoo Bars are a timely addition to its portfolio of prescribed haircare.

The Shampoo Bars bring an eco-conscious approach to your hair routine. Requiring 34% less water in production than liquid shampoo, the minimalist plant-based, biodegradable formulas are free of preservatives and stabilisers and contains only essential emollients and active ingredients. As well as plastic free and 100% recyclable packaging, each shampoo bar provides the same number of washes as 2 x 200ml liquid shampoos.

From the first use, hair is left intensely hydrated and softened thanks to the rich Mango Butter in each bar. Rich in nutritious fatty acids, the Mango kernels are hand harvested and cold-pressed using natural farming methods to extract the nourishing mango butter without denaturing the properties of the plant. The new formula with its delicious and luxurious fragrance, is generous to dry and brittle hair yet gentle enough to use on all the family (3+ years) helping to detangle and nourish hair, leaving it looking and feeling glossy, soft, and supple.

Another easy way to help the environment is to ease your water consumption!

Klorane’s Top Tips for Saving Water this Zero Waste Week!

The average European consumes around 160 litres of water daily, corresponding to almost 60,000 litres annually. Here are some easy steps to take to help reduce your daily water consumption.

Dry Shampoo Challenge:

Avoid washing your hair just once a week, using dry shampoo in its place and save up to 500 litres per year! Klorane dry shampoos clean hair gently, without water, in 2 minutes, just as well as a liquid shampoo. In an instant, hair’s texture and volume is restored, saving water, time and your hairstyle.

Turn off the tap:

Sounds obvious but by turning off the tap while you brush your teeth, lather your shampoo, leave your conditioner or hair mask get to work, you can save quite a few litres of water each day.

Shorter showers:

On average, a five-minute shower consumes 60 to 200 litres of water. For the day you’re not shampooing your hair in the shower, try cut your shower time in half.

Wash your veggies and feed your plants:

Instead of running your vegetables under the tap to clean them, washing all that nutrient rich soil down the drain, wash them over a basin and use the water for your plants.

Klorane’s iconic range of dry shampoos are at the heart of the brand and have developed something of a cult status across the globe with one bottle being sold every 10 seconds. Klorane’s formula is composed of plant-based active ingredients as well as 3 gentle and natural powders with very high absorbency. It leaves hair clean and adds volume without the need for water.

Klorane’s brand ethos has always focused on a commitment to the environment while creating great botanical based products that work, using sustainable farming methods. Klorane supports the work of Klorane Botanical Foundation, which is committed to preserving water and preventing the soil from drying out. The Foundation participates in reforestation programs, like the Great Green Wall in Africa where almost 80 000 trees have been replanted to push back the desert, and also initiatives to improve agricultural methods, notably in the Amazon region.

Klorane is available from selected pharmacies nationwide.
