A new study has revealed that after 1990, when the Qwerty keyboard saw a rise in popularity, parents started to favour names with letters from the right side of the keyboard.
The reason for this, researchers suggest, is because we view letters from the right side as more positive, as this is our dominant side, while letters from the left side are viewed in a more negative way.
The researchers looked for the 'Right Side Advantage' (RSA) for every name given to over 100 babies from 1960 to 2012, according to the US Social Security Administration, and found that since 1990, there was a big increase in names containing letters from the right hand side of the Qwerty keyboard. So if you were wondering why names such as David, Carl or Amanda don't seem to be as popular these days, perhaps this is the reason!
