When you’re in the process of giving birth, you have no choice but to put your life and that of your child in the hands of a medical team – and hope that it all works out for the best.

One woman who was left traumatised after doing so, however, is Amber Hughes; an English mother-of-four who was recently given an emergency Casearean-section after giving birth to her son.

Amber went into labour last July, 30 weeks into her pregnancy, and things took a dramatic turn as it progressed. After 36 hours in labour, Amber was only 3cm dilated and, fearing infection, doctors decided to carry out an emergency C-section.

The medical team was left baffled, however, when they cut Amber open and found no baby inside. It took them two minutes to realise that, in fact, Amber had given birth naturally just as her surgery began. Baby Olly had already been born vaginally, and they didn’t realise until they pulled the sheets back.

Now, as she demands answers, Amber has gone public with her story, recounting the shocking details to the Daily Mail.

Describing the ordeal as ‘horrific’, Amber said: “I was expecting my bundle of joy to be passed to me, but instead I watched panic spread over doctors' faces. For two whole minutes they were truly baffled until they heard little cries coming from my lap and pulled up the sheet to find Olly lying in between my legs.”

“For two minutes they had lost my baby. That is just ludicrous,” she added, revealing that she has yet to receive an apology from Leicester Royal Infirmary, where Olly was born.

Responding to the release of the story, a representative from the Leicester Hospitals told MailOnline.com: “We’re looking at the chain of events in detail and will share our findings with the parents. We’re sorry that this happened but glad that mum and baby are doing well.”
