Dublin Fire Brigade warns of major cooking error that causes house fires

With last minute cooking and rushing around, the holiday season can be a dangerous time for households.

So, the Dublin Fire Brigade have sent out an important reminder for families.

Using the toaster can seem like a simple, everyday task but if not used properly, it can lead to a house fire.

“Toasters are for bread”, they wrote on their twitter page.

“Don’t try to cook waffles. Don’t turn it on it’s side for melting cheese on toast.

“Oils will ignite when they come in contact with the elements.”

It is easy to quickly pop in any food you want warm and crispy, but the fire brigade warns that the heating device should only be used with bread.

Otherwise, it can have harmful and life-threatening effects that can easily be avoided.

“Don’t stick a fork in [the toaster],” they warned. “And empty the crumb tray regularly”.

Metal with anything electric can be a deadly combination. So next time your toast is stuck in the bottom, use plastic ware or a wooden chopstick to get it out after it cools.

This a good reminder to have, especially during the holiday season.

Please pass it on and share with friends and families to help prevent house fires.
