Make sure to bring a brolly if you are going out on the town tonight.

Torrential rains are expected to hit the country this evening.

Meteorologists have warned of the upcoming Storm Ernesto, pegged to hit the UK first and then sweep across the pond to Ireland's coasts.

Weather predictions indicate that today's dry spell will be replaced with 20 mm of rainfall tonight as the storm's remnants fizzle out over Ireland.

Met Éireann has issued a yellow weather warning for the storm's upcoming downpour. The worst of the subtropical storm will take place from around 8pm until 8am the following morning. However, the storm should clear by midday tomorrow.

The rain is predicted to move straight into Northern Ireland, where concentrations will be the heaviest.

However, Storm Ernesto is anticipated to lose most of its power as it crosses the Atlantic Ocean on its way to the Ireland and the UK.

Forecasters predict the storm will strike Connacht first around 6pm this evening and will travel east later tonight. Temperatures will remain warm and humid in most counties this weekend with highs between 18-25 degrees.

Along with heavy downpour, the storm will bring overcast skies, gusty winds, and muggy weather.

Forecasters also advise the public to expect the smell of fire and soot tracked in by the storm from wildfires in the US and Canada.

On the plus side, the smoke is said to make for some beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

So, be sure to prepare for the upcoming rain and stormy weather conditions, especially on the northern and eastern coasts of Ireland.
