It was only a week ago that Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg announced that he will be taking two months of paternity leave after the impending birth of his daughter, and now the social media mogul has announced an extension of the company’s leave policy for all.

All full-time Facebook employees outside of the United States will now be able to avail of the company’s parental leave policy. Currently, the provisions – which allow for four months of paid time off for all new parents – only apply to US-based workers.

Announcing the news in a Facebook post this week, Facebook’s Head of Human Resources Lori Matloff Goler wrote: “We want to be there for our people at all stages of life, and in particular we strive to be a leading place to work for families. An important part of this is offering paid parental or ‘baby’ leave.”

As their maternity leave policy is currently available to employees all over the world, Goler said that this new policy has been extended primarily to help new fathers and employees in same-sex unions outside of the US.

With Zuckerberg praised for setting an ambitious precedent with his own leave announcement last week, we’re sure that this latest news will be welcomed by employees within and outside of the company also.
