A little boy, who was left shaken after being involved in a car crash with his mother and two-year-old sister in Arizona, was reminded that firefighters do more than extinguish flames and tackle blazes.

Uninjured, but understandably frightened following the incident, four-year-old Lucas Pacheco was given the perfect treatment - a little TLC - when he needed it most.

Settling down beside the little boy as his mum and little sister were treated by emergency services, firefighter, Russell Whaley, distracted Lucas with a story and a reassuring cuddle.

Recalling the incident, Lucas' mum, Shana Blair, said: "My son started getting worried and scared. He was nervous seeing me with an oxygen mask and all this stuff on me."

Determined to placate the little boy's concerns, Russell recalls initiating a conversation with little Lucas, telling the press: "He was wearing a Ninja Turtles T-shirt, so we started talking about that."

"And the next thing I know, we have a book in front of us and he's sitting on my lap and we're reading a book on the side of the freeway," he relates as he insists it's all part and parcel of the job.

"A lot of times we're dealing with emotional needs", he explains as he opens up about the pride he takes in his work. "It's not just putting out a fire, or putting a Band-Aid on a wound."

The image capturing a very tender moment between Russell and Lucas has garnered much attention as members of the public seek to share it across their personal social media platforms.
