Choosing a foundation isn’t just a matter of going into a shop and picking up your trusted brand or whatever is on sale that day, there are a few things you need to consider.

Here are the three most common skin types and the foundations to use:

Dry skin

If you have dry skin you will need to go for something moisturising that will keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. For lighter coverage or a more daytime look go for a tinted moisturiser.

Oily skin

If you have oily skin you need to stay clear of anything with oil in it. Go for an oil-free matte foundation that will absorb the oil rather than add more to your face.

Combination skin

It can be a little trickier to find a foundation for combination skin types. You need one that will hydrate and moisturise your dry areas yet not clog your oily patches. Go a mineral make-up that will leave your face bright and shine-free.
