You may as well know now, if you don’t already, that a large portion of entertaining your child involves you making a fool of yourself. It seems the more ridiculous we behave, the more funny they find it!
So while you might feel a bit silly singing your heart out, it’s a brilliant activity to do with a baby. Your voice, movements and dancing will engage their senses – and you will get a kick out of seeing their expressions change as your voice goes higher and higher and your moves go more and more like Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever.
So what should you sing? Well we suggest you go with the classics like Wheels on the Bus, I’m a Little Teapot and Old MacDonald, so you can really go crazy with the actions, noises and animal impressions.
Mix it up and see what your baby responds to. Sing high, sing low, whisper the words and jump around the room while singing. The key here is to get silly!
And if your poor vocal chords can’t take much more singing, stick on some tunes and get dancing, either by yourself or gently rocking your baby to the music.
Oh, and don’t forget, you can always store up the fact that your baby danced to the Grease soundtrack to embarrass them when they’re a teenager.
A good result all round.
