Games: Hopscotch with a twist

Now that the evenings are brighter and warmer, you will probably have noticed that the kids are desperate to stay out and make the most of the fresh air with their playmates. Hopscotch is an old favourite, and this new twist on the classic game is sure to keep your little ones entertained.

 

What you will need:

• Multi-coloured chalk
• A dice

 

What to do:

1. Get your little one and their friends together, and get your thinking caps on. Come up with some fun actions to do for each step of the Hopscotch scale. Get creative with different ways they can use their bodies and their imaginations.
2. Using differently coloured chalks for each step and action, draw out the game as pictured.
3. Assign a number to each step, and roll the dice to find the corresponding number. Each child has to make their way to that spot on the Hopscotch scale and, once they land, do the assigned action.
4. If it’s a hit, why not try drawing numerous different scales and get as many of your neighbours as possible involved?
