Following the shocking discovery of a newborn baby girl by a roadside in Rathcoole last Friday, a garda press conference will be held this morning in an effort to trace the parents of the abandoned infant.

The child, who was discovered in a shopping bag on Steelstown Road in Co. Dublin last weekend, is currently being cared for in the Coombe Hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.

Items similar to those found with the child will be displayed at the press conference in an effort to jog the public's memory and gardaí are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Officials believe the child may have been born 24 to 36 hours prior to her discovery in Rathcoole, but are still no further on in locating her parents, although forensic examinations are currently being carried out on items found at the scene.

Acknowledging the sensitivity of the case, gardaí have stressed that their primary concern is the welfare of the infant's mother who may been in need of medical attention.
