Putting your baby down for a nap is definitely the best way to keep both you and them happy. However, we can't be in the house all the time waiting for our little ones to close their eyes for 40 minutes, so it is important we know how to get them to sleep when out and about.

We know that creating the perfect sleep environment is the best way to help them settle down, but, more often than not, life gets in the way and we end up far from home when it’s time for baby’s nap.

Depending on your child's personality, it can be a little tricky to get them down when they aren't in the comfort of their own home, but sometimes a little bit of perseverance goes a long way.

Find a quiet corner

If possible, try to find a quiet corner away from lots of people. We all know how hard it can be to shut your eyes when there is a lot going on and the same can definitely be said for your baby. Too many distractions will keep your baby awake so try to keep them to a minimum when it's nap time.

Pop them in their buggy

Whether you are in someone’s house or out and about, pop your little one into their buggy when awake and gently rock them back and forth. If you don’t have a buggy, their car seat can work just as well. Simply rock it gently in a quiet room.

Use a baby wrap

Keeping your baby close to you in a sling or wrap is a great way to help them relax and feel comforted. If you don't have either, simply wrap them up in a blanket and hold them close as you go for a gentle walk around.

Be home for at least one solid nap

An overtired baby wil struggle to sleep so try to ensure they are given the opportunity to have at least one proper nap at home before you go anywhere or when you come back. This way, even if your youngster only has a ten/15 minute nap when out and about, you’ll know that they have a good, long one behind them or one to come.
