Goodall's cooking pastes feedback

I was delighted to be choosen as one of the testers for Goodall's pastes, before this I used Goodall's dried herbs but was never really happy with the flavour mainly because I used too much of the herbs and felt the flavour was very false.

My first venture with the pastes was the Garlic and Rosemary Sunday Dinner was a beautiful leg of Lamb but on a day which was dry the last thing I wanted was to be putting sprigs of Rosemary and slices of Garlic in the leg of Lamb, well life is too short. It was great to be able to rub the paste on the Lamb early on Sunday morning and leave it to marinate, the smell of garlic and rosemary soon filled the house. I have to say the cooked Lamb tasted amazing and the kids were delighted as none of them got a bitter piece of garlic.

Next up was the chopped chillies, no worrying about rubbing my eyes with my fingers again. With 6 kids to cook for each with varying tastebuds especially regarding spicy and hot foods we loved this. I marinated chicket fillets in 2 different bowls some with less of the paste and onto the barbecue everyone was happy especially the one who likes his food very hot.

I love using garlic but hate chopping it and the smell left on my fingers no problems now stir in the paste and away we go. The Italian herb paste is great added to some mince, tinned tomatoes and a little garlic paste and we have quick and easy Spag Bol, I was so lasy one evening that instead of chopping onions I added the Shallot paste.

All in all Goodall's paste will be on my shopping list, great that they last 4 weeks in the fridge after opening but the don't last in my house, larger jars would be required.

The last of the garlic paste was mixed with butter tonight for home made Garlic Bread.

Great products will be buying them all in future they will become the new cupboard staple in our home along with rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes and beans.

Thanks again MummyPages and Goodall's for giving me the oppotunity opperto try them.

Thanks to Mummypages & Goodalls for this wonderful trial, I love to cook most dishes from scratch so was very interested to see how the pastes would compare to the fresh product. I am familar with Goodalls and have / do use many of their products, spices, peppers, soy sauce, essences etc.

Ginger - This has a lovely flavour and will be I will buy again. It was impossible to detect the difference between this & fresh ginger in the dishes I tried, plus it is so convenient not to have to peel/chop etc.

Garlic - I liked the garlic but I would prefer the fresh garlic for mayo, butters etc becuase I think the taste & texture is better. In a sauce or casserole I found the paste fine but I would be unlikely to buy it in the future.

Chillies - I love spicy food but hate chopping chillies so this paste is a godsend, its fiery with texture & will definitely be on the shopping list regularly.

Shallots - I really liked these which surprised me because I would have expected them to have lost some of their bite when kept in the vinegar but they were perfect. Will keep a jar of these in the fridge for rush jobs or when I run out the fresh ones.

Garlic & rosemary - I love the aroma of this when it was cooking but I felt it didn't have enough garlic beside the strength of the rosemary so will probably not buy this one in the future.

Italian herbs - I have only used this one once in a tomato sauce with pasta & although it added a nice flavour I found I had to add approx 4 big teaspoons to get the depth of flavour I was looking for but again that may be because we tend to like stronger flavoured foods. I would be unlikely to buy this again but will try it again on other dishes.

The pastes are a very hady standby in any kitchen, my favourites being the ginger, chillies & shallots. The other thing I did notice is that they do not feel very oily compared to other similar products on the market.

Firstly I would like to apologise for my late response but my lap top has been in for repair. Secondly I would like to thank Goodalls and MummyPages for the chance to try out these god sends for all Mothers! No more chopping, its as easy as open the jar and spoon out what you need! Genius!
We used the shallots in our homemade gravy for our sunday roasts and it was delicious. We used the garlic & rosemary for our roast potatoes and croquettes too.
I loved the chilli and garlic ones the most, I have used them the most with beef and chicken in spag bog and fajitas.
I used the italian herbs with pasta dishes, and the ginger for stir fries.
They are great for marinades too, really experimented with a bit of them for our BBQ!
Will definitely be on my shopping list from now on and last 4 weeks when refrigerated, no waste, no fuss.
Thanks again.

Hi Mummy Pages.
Thank you for the Goodall’s pastes that I received to try out.
I have used various Goodall’s products over the years and I’m happy to say that the new products did not disappoint!
To begin, I used the Garlic and Rosemary, Italian Herbs and Shallots in Spaghetti Bolognese. I have also used the Garlic and Rosemary roasting chicken fillets. They were delicious and so convenient. The Garlic paste is delicious for everything – we have finished this jar already.
I used the Chilli when I made Chilli con Carne and home-made soup. Again the flavour was superb. No one would have guessed that I hadn’t spent hours chopping.
I don’t use Ginger very often so as yet we haven’t tried this paste. The Goodall’s pastes are extremely convenient and user friendly. I would have liked if Goodall’s had included a guide as quantities per spoon. I used a heaped teaspoon of Chilli in my first soup and it was too hot. That said I’m delighted with the pastes and will buy them again.
Thanks Goodalls and Mummypages!

Just a brilliant trial to take part in – especially as I’m not really all that good at cooking, but I love making an effort to create home cooked meals – having these pastes meant I had to figure out how to use them to create interesting and tasty meals for my family.
As there were a few recommended recipes on the Goodall’s site, I thought I’d try a few of them.
I started off with chicken Korma and it was just gorgeous. It was really easy to make and having the pastes ready to use made a real difference. The pastes used for this one were ginger and garlic. A super tasty dish, which I would definitely make again.
For my next dish I selected the Crab Cakes recipe with sweet chilli sauce because my husband loves them. The two pastes used for this were ginger paste and chilli paste. Again, this was a really simple and tasty dish. Great for Friday supper. Invariably when I’ve decided to make these last minute, there is nothing left on the ginger and the chilli has totally withered. Ridiculously handy to have it there ready to use (no chopping and no smelly fingers!) and always fresh.
Homemade soup was my next recipe – I’ve been trying to make a really tasty soup for ages, and not one that I just about eat the first day, and then never want to touch again, despite making a giant pot of it. There’s a recipe on the Goodall’s site for Roast Tomato and Garlic Soup – and it is really yummy. There wasn’t enough left to have the next day, so no more giant pots of soup left over. I should mention though, it’s not something you whip up in a flash when you come in from work on account of the roast tomatoes (takes approx 40 mins), But do take the time to do it, it’s a really easy recipe and it’s so tasty, the paste I used in this soup was garlic.
I noticed on the Goodall’s site that there were some really handy tips for spicing up simple recipes, like adding Italian Herb Paste to Spag Bol ... which I did, and it added a lovely new twist to an old regular dish we have every week.
I also followed their recommendation to mix the Chili paste with sour cream for a quick dip, which was to die for. Although, I definitely over did it ... finishing the nachos all myself. Eek. Monday diet looms.
I’ve used the Shalots paste for Sunday roast gravy/sauce, which was really yum, and I do plan on doing Lamb chops one of these days where the Rosemary & Garlic paste will feature.
I don’t think I have a favourite – they all taste great. If I was pushed, I’d go with chilli – but that’s probably more a personal taste choice.
These are a great addition to a time strapped mum’s kitchen. Really convenient and still really tasty.
They’ll definitely become a shopping list regular.
Thanks so much for letting me take part in this trial.
