She made headlines around the world when it was announced that she was expecting quadruplets at the age of 65, and the fallout was not without its fair share of controversy. Thankfully though, there has been a positive update in the story this week.

Three months after Annegret Raunigk gave birth to premature quadruplets, it has been reported that the little ones have finally been given the all-clear to go home.

Raunigk welcomed a daughter and three sons back in May, with the tots weighing between 1.4kg and 2kg at birth.

Initially, there were fears that the babies either wouldn’t survive or would have long-term health issues, but the head of the Neonatology Department at Berlin’s Charite Hospital confirmed that all four babies will be home by the end of August.

Professor Christoph Buhrer said: “All have developed well, they have grown wonderfully in a short time.”

He did reveal, however, that the babies have undergone a series of procedures since their birth. While daughter Neeta underwent surgery to repair a hole in her bowel, son Dries had surgery for fluid on the brain.

Annegret is also mum to 13 other children aged between 10 and 44.

We are so glad to hear that these tots are doing well, and we wish them all the best as they return home.
