It’s been nearly 33 years since the Kerry Babies case shocked the nation, following the discovery of a dead infant on White Strand beach in Kerry.

Earlier this year, a DNA profile was established for Baby John was was found dead back in 1984, and today, according to reports, police have said that up to 20 gardai from the Serious Crime Review Team and the Kerry Division are expected to begin their house-to-house interviews along the Kerry coastal area as part of the inquiry into the baby's death.

According to the Independent.ie, Gardai will arrive on Valentia Island and begin their enquiries today. An Garda Síochána are now reviewing the case with the hope of discovering the baby’s parents.

“Gardai will arrive on the island at around 1pm and have between 400 and 500 homes to go to. This isn’t the result of any specific intel but it is an important aspect that has to be examined,” the source said.

At the time of the investigation, local woman Joanne Hayes and her family confessed to killing Baby John, however, they later renounced their confession.

Thanks to the new establishments in developing baby John's DNA profile, this confirmsed that Ms.Hayes was not the mother of the child, despite her initial confession.

The investigation continues.
