Going back to work is tough and whether you have to return when your little one is six months, nine months or 12 months, balancing everything is difficult.

To help you enjoy a more balanced life, not feel like you are overwhelmed by everything you have to do have a read of the following tips.

Be organised

Organisation is key to a happy life. If it helps, write down a list of things that need to be done in the home each evening – lunches, clothes, washing – and mark every date you need to remember in your calendar. This way you won’t forget important events like doctor appointments and you will be able to give your boss plenty of notice for days off.

Childcare is key

You need to find childcare that works for both you and baby. Whether you put your baby in the care of a crèche, nanny, family member or childminder, you need to feel comfortable otherwise you’ll spend most of your time in the office worrying, and it won’t be a very productive day. If something doesn’t fit or feel right then look at alternative options.

Use your time efficiently

Now that you have a gorgeous little bundle to collect at a certain time, you’ll need to be able to leave work right on the button. This will mean you'll need to work efficiently during the day to get all your work done and be able to leave the office ready to focus your attention on baby. For example, you could use your lunchtime to pick up groceries.

Make time for your family

It is important you make time at the weekend or each evening that is solely dedicated to your baby. This will give you a chance to bond and catch up about your day with your other half. This time is not for work, so push whatever work-related thing is worrying you to the back of your mind.

Last but not least, say goodbye to the guilt

Mummy guilt is definitely an unnecessary part of parenting, as it can bring you down and make you feel overwhelmed and stressed. Whether you are at home or at work, focus on your priorities at the moment.
