How to care for your baby when theyre teething

Every mum dreads the teething stage because seeing your little one in pain is one of the toughest things we have to face. We just want to wrap them in cotton wool and cuddle them until they’re better.

Luckily, there are so many things us mamas can do to take care of baby when they’re teething. These helpful tips and tricks will be super helpful, especially for first-time mums going through this stage for the very first time.

What Is Teething?

Teething tends to begin at the six month mark, however, some babies start at three-months and others when they’re a year old. Teething can be extremely uncomfortable and at times, incredibly painful for baby. The best thing parents can do is beware of the signs and symptoms so once you spot them you will know how to treat them.

The best way to check if your little one has a tooth coming through is to gently run a clean finger around their mouth to check for a tooth bud.

Signs and Symptoms:

The main signs of teething include dribbling, biting, flushed cheeks and sore gums.

These symptoms can cause baby to feel extremely irritable as they’re constantly in pain as their teeth come in. They will also struggle to fall asleep because the pain disrupts their sleeping habits. Babies will wake up during the night when pain becomes too much for them to sleep through. Experts say they will endure more sleepless nights when their bigger molars come out.

How Can I Help?

There are so many things mums can do to ease the pain a baby has to experience when they’re teething. Teething can cause quite a lot of distress for baby so one thing we need to do is try and calm them down. The last thing you want is for baby to be overwhelmed so why not run them a bubble bath?

Find something for them to chew on. There’s bound to be a teething ring at home that baby can chew on during the day. Just make sure that it is completely sterilized. Why not keep teething toys in your fridge so they’re nice and cold for baby. This will offer a numbing effect and ease the pain massively.

One thing we always lean on is a teething gel. Nelsons Teetha is an award winning natural and homeopathic medicinal product that relieves teething pain and symptoms associated with teething, including sore and tender gums, flushed cheeks and dribbling.

Teetha is available in both granules and as a gel, with both formats super convenient to apply on your baby’s gums while out and about.

Suitable from 3+ months plus.

Due to the constant dribbling, baby may experience dehydration. This can be solved by offering them a bottle of cold water or milk. Not only will it ease pain, but it will keep them hydrated too. It’s a win-win.
