It’s not surprising that Italian gardens are starting to grow in popularity, their colour and feel is just so relaxing and inviting.

Easy to recreate and maintain, you don’t need to be living in a warm climate to be able to enjoy the classic style.

If do fancy going down the Italian route, have a read of the following tips to ensure it looks as authentic as possible.

1. Planting

Make sure you choose plants that you would find in Italy so go for bay trees, olive trees, lavender and sage, and various grasses.

2. Patio

When creating your patio, do go for stone, cobble or granite, and stick with warm tones rather than gray.

3. Potting

You’ll find a lot of terracotta pots filled with rich, colourful plants lining houses and gardens so invest in various sizes - the large ones look quite well with a bay tree. They are a little expensive but they will last a long time.

4. Water feature

You can’t have a true Italian garden without some form of a water feature. Whether it’s a fountain or a pond, the trickling sound of water is a must for your garden.

5. Add a fresco

If you are feeling artistic, why not create your very own fresco of a vineyard or landscape on a wall.

Things to avoid:

Avoid using concrete, gravel and rock that is gray and steer clear of pale colours like baby pink.
