There’s no sugarcoating it - your little one is capable of producing some very smelly nappies.

While this is all natural and healthy, the nasty odour that’s left in your home is less than desirable, especially if you’re expecting visitors.

Here are a few tips on how to get rid of nappy smells around the home.

Try ziplock bags:  Pop the dirty nappy in a sandwich ziplock bag to control the smell, and clear them out by the end of the day.

Use a small bin: Use a small bin for the nappies - small enough that you have to change the pail once or twice every day, to keep the number from mounting up.

Natural oil: An idea is to put a paper towel soaked in around 10 drops of a nice-smelling natural oil like eucalyptus or lavender in the bottom of the pail - between the pail and the bag. This should work well at covering lingering odours.

Use coffee beans: Coffee beans might sound a little strange when trying to combat nappy smells, but the rich aroma covers the smell of a dirty nappy easily.  All you have to do is put a small mesh bag full of coffee beans at the bottom of the pail, and let it do it's work.

Sprinkle baking soda: Baking soda has long been the go to destroyer of odours. By sprinkling some in the bottom of your nappy pail, you eliminate many of the foul smells that permeate the surrounding area, as baking soda absorbs the odours. You should clean the baking soda out of your pail at least once a week and add fresh baking soda for best effects.
