When it comes to applying your foundation it is important you get it right – an uneven base can ruin your whole look. And while fingers and sponges are the favourite for most of us, a brush can actually work to your advantage.

If you have yet to try this technique or you are a little worried about saying farewell to your sponge, the following tips will ensure you look flawless:

1. Cleanse and moisturise your face before putting foundation on it - this will create an even base to work with.

2. Pump a little foundation onto the back of your hand.

3. Gently dab the brush into the foundation using just one side.

4. Start in the centre of your face and slowly blend, using long strokes, out towards your hair and jaw line.

5. Use the tapered edge of the brush to get into the hard-to-reach areas, like your nose or chin.

6. Use a blending brush to blend away any make-up lines.

7. Set your foundation with a little loose powder.

For the first few times it will take a little longer than a sponge but it will leave you with a finish that you will love.
