Life doesn’t always work out like it does in the movies, but one experience always seems to translate perfectly: the utter joy of your baby’s safe arrival into the world.

And so, we can totally sympathise with the father in this Reddit post, after a friend of the family beat him to announcing the birth of his child to his loved ones.

The post, from Reddit user ‘NewDad_Throwaway’, is titled: ‘Our friend/paediatrician stole my thunder by announcing the birth of my daughter’.

Our friend/pediatrician stole my (the father's) thunder by announcing the birth of my daughter from Parenting

In it, he explains: “So unfortunately, as the title says, a friend of my wife - who also happens to be a paediatrician (and who we planned to use as our paediatrician) - told my family who was in the waiting room as soon as our daughter had been born.”

As it happened, the ‘friend’ knew a nurse on the staff at the hospital and contacted her to find out the major news.

That nurse went on to confirm that NewDad_Throwaway’s wife had given birth to a girl, and the friend promptly made the announcement.

“I was unaware, so our friends and family pretended to hear it for the first time when I arrived shortly thereafter. I found out the truth from the paediatrician herself, who came clean,” he revealed.

Given how that was an ‘incredibly triumphant’ moment for the new father, described as ‘the closest he has ever felt to walking on clouds’, the truth was understandably upsetting to hear.

“Experiencing the primal triumph has made me realise that it isn’t unreasonable to feel robbed in that moment,” he went on to admit.

While the doting new dad is now focusing on the fact that fatherhood encompasses so much more than that first moment, he is naturally still irked – for many reasons.

“It doesn’t change that one of the most joyful moments of my life has been tainted. Plus, there’s the complication that she’s supposed to be our child’s paediatrician going forward,” he added.

Fellow Redditors were quick to brand the friend’s behaviour as ‘rude’, and many have urged the dad to reconsider having her as his child’s paediatrician.
