We think we have found the most hard-working OBGYN in the field, in the form of one Emily Jacobs.

The US resident med has made headlines this week, after going into labour while delivering another woman’s baby.

The dramatic turn of events unfolded on July 28, in the early hours of the morning, while Emily was helping to deliver her ‘second or third’ baby.

Emily, herself, was just over 36 weeks pregnant and had three hours of her shift left to go when she noticed something unusual.

“I noticed what I thought was amniotic fluid of the patient as the baby was delivering,” recalled the 28-year-old, for ABC News.

“It wasn’t until I left the room when I realised that it was my water that had broken.”

With her little one making an early appearance, at 36 weeks and one day, Emily was understandably ‘freaking out a little bit’.

“We were still seeing patients, and my supervisor just kind of smiled and told me to go back in one of the triage rooms and wait for her to confirm that it was my water,” she said.

Baby Jett Eric arrived into the world at 3pm the following day, tipping the scales at 6lbs 2oz, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The new mum, who welcomed Jett with husband Ryan, believes that the experience has only benefited her education.

“It’s definitely made me more empathetic and more aware of what it’s like going through some pregnancy complications,” she admitted.

“People will come in, in preterm labour often….very worried about the health of their baby and themselves. Until I went through it, I can definitely appreciate just how worried and nervous you get.”

Baby Jett is now seven weeks old, and thriving. Well done, Mum!

Emily’s incredible story calls to mind that of Amanda Hess, a Kentucky OBGYN who put her own delivery on hold in order to deliver Leah Halliday Johnson’s baby.

“I just put on another gown to cover up my backside, and put on some boots over my shoes, to keep from getting any fluid and all that stuff on me, and went down to her room,” she explained, to NBC.

Leah went on to give birth to a daughter, with the help of Amanda who later welcomed a girl of her own.

We salute these incredible women!
