The family of Shaun Dunworth, who fell from a bridge in Australia last month, have confirmed that he has woken from a coma.

The young man opened his eyes on quite the special day. His parents were sitting by his bedside on his 21st birthday when Shaun woke up.

He said: “I love you, mum and dad,” to his parents who have been by his side since his accident.

It is believed he is responding well and is aware of his surroundings.

Earlier that day, his mum and dad had decorated his hospital room to mark his 21st birthday.

We’re sure his parents, Steven and Karen Dunsworth, were simply stunned when their son opened his eyes.

Shaun has been miraculously taken off life support and has been moved out of the intensive care unit.

Shaun was found under a North Sydney overpass on July 29.

He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney in a serious condition, where he was treated for pelvic and brain injuries.

He will now undergo multiple MRI scans at the hospital.

The family who are from Ramelton, Donegal have a long road ahead of them, but they have received waves of support since news of Shaun’s accident broke earlier this summer.

A GoFundMe has been set up in honour of Shaun and his parents. Over €55,000 has been raised for the trio so far.
