Even if the sun's not shining there is nothing quite like whiling away an afternoon enjoying a picnic with the kids.

And while your back garden or even your local park can make a great place to enjoy nice food and quality family time, this summer, why not head to one of Ireland's top ten picnic spots.

As part of their Perfect Picnic campaign, potato and crisp farmers Keogh’s Farm have identified the best spots around the country for an outing with all the family, with Phoenix Park, Co. Dublin nabbing the top spot.

No doubt due to its leafy, central location and having one of the largest enclosed recreational spaces within any European city, the public park topped the poll taking 12% of the votes.

Second on the list is Fota Wildlife Park, Co. Cork where there is ample space to lay your blanket and enjoy a delicious picnic. Just be sure to guard your crisps and sandwiches from peckish, roaming animals!

And finally, taking the third spot is, not surprisingly, the historic Glendalough in Co. Wicklow, which was also named as Ireland’s most romantic picnic spot!

Other locations to appear in the top ten included the Standhill Beach, the Hill of Tara and the National Stud and Gardens in Co. Kildare.
