It’s been nearly 33 years since the Kerry Babies case shocked the nation, following the discovery of a dead infant on White Strand beach in Kerry.

Today, a DNA profile has been established for Baby John who was found dead back in 1984.

A blood sample has been in Gardaí’s possession since 1984, but due to new technology, they have been able to use the sample to develop a full DNA profile.

An Garda Síochána are now reviewing the case with the hope of discovering the baby’s parents.

At the time of the investigation local woman Joanne Hayes and her family confessed to killing Baby John, however, they later renounced their confession.

This new information confirms that Ms.Hayes was not the mother of the child, despite her initial confession.

A press conference is scheduled for this afternoon where Gardaí will issue an appeal for new information from anyone who was in the Cahersiveen area in April 1984.
