About
People from the Middle Ages will be preparing for the feast of Christmas with music, food, crafts and skills that you can join in and enjoy. There will be a Jongleur with his musical instruments, including a Hurdy-Gurdy, playing and singing medieval carols, dance tunes and songs.
The Goodwives have a selection of sweetmeats and spices that will show how many of our favourite Christmas flavours began. The Chandler brings sweetness and light with wax from the honey bee and shows how candles are made, with the chance to make your own Christmas candle. Our Cistercian monk will show the young how to write a fair hand with a goosequill pen.
The Armourers are back with a selection of arms and armour for young squires to try on and get familiar with the heft of a sword. Pots and pottery will be explained, from the earliest pinch pots to the practical glazed ware used in everyday cooking and daily life.
No booking required. Partially wheelchair accessible. Please see the National Museum of Ireland website for further information.
