About

The Sheep and Wool Museum was founded in 1992 by Michael and Kathleen O'Toole with a view to displaying and conserving different items which were used in the wool industry locally. Michael, a Farmer and Agricultural Scientist specialising in Hill Sheep Farming, was aware of the potential extinction of several breeds of sheep. He wished to generate interest in the conservation of rare breeds of sheep, and also demonstrate to visitors and locals alike the various stages of wool handcraft industry as it was practiced in the past. Under the watchful eye of Michael and Kathleen, their daughter Aine and husband Gregg took over the management of the Sheep & Wool Centre in January 2009. Another daughter, Orla, has taken on her Dads gumboots and is the museum demonstrator and resident sheep farmer. It is a true family business.
