About
Donegal castle was built by the O Donell chieftains in the 1400’s. It is situated on the river Eske in Donegal town centre. In the 1500’s it was rebuilt by Sir Basil Brooke in Jacobean style after it was burned down so that it would not fall into the hands of the enemy. The castle is open to visitors from mid March to the end of October.
