Old Franciscan Abbey

Old Franciscan Abbey is located at the mouth of the Bay. The abbey was founded by Hugh O’ Donnell in 1474. This abbey was attacked many times over its history and was partially destroyed due to an explosion in 1601. The abbey was the site of the ‘Annals of the Four Masters which is one of Ireland’s most valuable historical accounts.
