About

Ballywalter Park has been the home of the family for over 150 years and it is still very much a private house, whose fabric and contents continue to evolve, as they have, over time, according to the tastes and whims of the incumbent members of the Mulholland family. Restoration has been ongoing for many years, having commenced in the late 1950s - early 1960s, shortly after my predecessor, Henry, the late 4th Baron Dunleath, inherited the property. He and his wife, Dorinda, embarked on a long overdue process of restoration and their dedication, enthusiasm and hard work gave me a firm platform, after moving in during 1997, upon which to embark on the latest - and most ambitious - phase of the renovation works of the property. This contract, very successfully carried out by the main contractors, McGimpsey & Kane from Kircubbin, under supervision from the conservation architectural practice, Alistair Coey & Associates, was undertaken over a period of some 60 weeks between 2000 and 2001. The culmination of all these works has resulted in Ballywalter Park probably being in as good a condition now as when it was originally built all those years ago.
