Portumna Castle

Portumna Castle was built in 1618 by Richard Burke who was the 4th Earl off Clanricarde. This is a Jacobean house was the main seat of the de Burgo family for 200 years until it set fire in 1826. The style of the house is influenced by Renaissance and English style houses and is now open to the public. There is currently conservation work taking place at the house and recent restorations include a 17th century kitchen and garden. There are guided tours available at the house.
