About

The acquisition of the Carrol Collection is the latest major development at The Georgian House. This is a very significant display of family heirlooms and military memorabilia dating between the late 1700’s and the 1920’s. The military careers of five generations of this remarkable family start with Major-General Sir William Parker Carrol whose exploits in the Peninsular War are legendary. The display presents exhibits from the Peninsular Campaign, The Boer War and both World Wars along with many unique family pieces in addition to the military items. The donor of the Collection is Mrs June O’Carrol Robertson who is the only living descendant of the Carrol’s of Lissenhall and Tulla. Her family have traced their ancestry back to the great O’Carrol Chieftains. The family were extremely proud of their Irish connections. They retained a presence at Lissenhall until the 1920’s when the trauma of the “troubles” and the work of the Land Commission brought about a division of the Carrol Estate and the leaving of the family home.
