About
The Treaty Stone is a limestone block raised on a pedestal. It is situated across from the River Shannon at King John’s Castle. It is believed that the Treaty of Limerick was signed in 1691 on this rock which marked the surrender of Limerick city to William of Orange. There is a decoration on the pedestal with an image of the King John’s Castle surmounted by a dome and cross. This image is now the civic insignia of the corporation.
