Castletown Motte

Castletown Mote and Bailey was built in the late 12th century by the De Verdon family. There are circular mounds that are 20m high which is enclosed by a ditch. The ruin of the 18th century castellated house is located on top of the mound. It was built by Patrick Byrne who was a famous pirate at the time.
