Baltimore Sailing School

About

Established in 1974. Under the local supervision and ownership of the Kennedy Family. A week or fortnight at the school will not only teach and introduce you to the art of sailing, but will provide you with an unforgettable holiday. Courses run from June to September. They begin on Monday mornings at 10am and except for a lunch break (sometimes a picnic) each days sailing ends usually at 5pm and finishes on Friday evening. They have a high teacher / pupil ratio on the courses with an instructor to every 4 pupils. At the end of a 5 day course 90% of pupils can handle a dinghy on their own under good weather conditions (about half of pupils are complete novices when they arrive). The principle boats which they use are purpose built National 18s, they also sail in Wayfarers and 420s. The Sailing School is a small family run business and usually have between 16 and 22 people on each course and with the high number of instructors there is maximum individual attention. Baltimore harbour and the region of Carbery's 100 Isles. They sail up around the Islands twice a week. As this area is mostly uninhabited it is a wonderful place to spend a day. On these trips there is a chance to learn a little about chart work and anchoring.
