An eight-year-old girl helped her mum deliver her baby brother while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

Mum Krystle Garcia was in labour on Monday morning when she called the emergency services.

The dispatcher alerted paramedics, but they weren't quick enough to get there before the baby started to arrive.

Unable to do it by herself, Krystle - who is from Florida in the US - looked to her little girl Jazmine for help.

The dispatcher was able to talk Krystle and her little girl through the delivery.

During the eight-minute call, Jazmine calmly passed on the dispatcher's instructions to her mum, fetched towels and secured the baby's head.

"She is in so much pain," Jazmine said of mum at one point during the call, but still managed to keep her wise little head on her shoulders throughout the labour.

When paramedics arrived, they took the baby boy and his exhausted mum to a hospital.

Both mum and baby are doing fine, and the beautiful boy was named Joseph James Snyder.

Krystle later said she was very proud of Jazmine for handling everything so well, with the help of the dispatcher.

"She definitely stayed calm when she needed to. I was hysterical," the mum said.
