Christmas is definitely so much more special when you have kids to share it with. And while you will be looking forward to celebrating your baby’s first one, just remember that to them it is just another ordinary day with a little more activity going on.

However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go out of your way to make it feel special.

Make Santa’s presence felt

Bite Rudolph’s carrot, scatter fireplace soot all over the floor and leave drips of milk all over the floor. While your baby won’t really remember the day it’ll feel that little bit different from all the other years to you and that extra bit special.

Get them a special festive outfit

While you don't need to spend a fortune, pick up a lovely new festive outfit specially for the day, lay it out and have it ready for the morning. For a truly festive feel go for something red or really smart - this outfit will be a reminder of just how tiny your little one was on the day.

Head outside

Wrap baby up warm and head outside to enjoy a family walk. There is nothing quite like the crisp feel of Christmas morning, especially if it’s not raining or the sun decides to peeps its head out for a bit. The feel of the empty streets and the cheery waves from strangers really does make for a very special way to start the day.

Simply be there

While you will want to take lots of pictures, spend time simply being there with your baby looking at them and enjoying their company without a camera between you and them. You will remember the morning so much more if you look at it through your eyes.

Don’t try too hard

Don’t expect the day to be absolutely perfect or to put yourself under pressure trying to make it something that resembles a movie. If your expectations for the absolute perfect day are not met you’ll feel sad on a day that you should just be sharing with your baby.
