Callie Martin and Kailan Broughton were dealt a tragic blow when they learned that Callie was experiencing an ectopic pregnancy having already suffered three miscarriages.

Recalling the moment their hope of becoming parents had yet again been dashed, Callie said: "It felt as if I'd never be a mother."

But four weeks after having emergency surgery to remove the embryo, doctors discovered that Callie, who had been suffering stomach pain, had been carrying twins and baby Emmie had survived inside the womb despite the traumatic surgery.

Opening up about the amazing turn of events, overjoyed Callie said: "When doctors told me I was still pregnant I thought they must be wrong. But when they showed me the scan and I saw her heart beating, I was overcome with joy."

Despite conceiving naturally, the 26-year-old mum had experienced a hetereotopic pregnancy which is normally associated with IVF.

Recalling the doctor's stunned reactions, Callie said: "It is so rare that although doctors said they'd heard of it, no one had ever actually seen it before."

Baby girl Emmie, who beat odds of just 50,000 to one to survive, was delivered via caesaraen section six weeks early in August and weighed a healthy 6lbs.

We couldn't be happier for the lovely couple!
